'Alone Together : Stronger Together'An adaptation of an artists book looking at "collective influence", disability and art.
Nothing is new. We learn from the past and build upon our findings: being inspired and influenced on what precedes us. This is evolution: recycling, adapting, deconstructing, reconstructing and seeing things in new ways in order to better understand them. Being influenced by the past and inspired to create change moving forward. We add layers, each person making their mark and building upon what has come before them. Being inspired and hoping to inspire to keep something alive. Part of anxiety, for me, is a need to know all possibilities of everything. I break things down, look at their possibilities and rework them until I feel I really know them. This piece demonstrates how one thing can inspire many variations. The format of the piece is intentionally ambiguous: Sketch book? artist book? Zine? It has no definite beginning or end. Nothing is ever finished. Every action is influential in some way; a reminder me of the importance of taking responsibility for what information we share and how we share it. This is shown in the content of the work which speaks of the collective, identity as individuals and in groups, finding strength in numbers and having a collective voice. |

This piece is designed to be a page in a group Zine. It is about being categorised by society - labelled and put into a box. It is about thinking outside of the box, about forms and check box exercises and generally what it is to be restricted by a box. |
