Time Well Spent
Time Well Spent was a project at Tate investigating how different ways of spending our time might be considered productive or unproductive and how different forms of work might be valued or unappreciated.
I created a participatory drawing based work called ‘Just a Minute’. I invited members of the public to complete a series of pattern making exercises under varying restrictions including different time pressures.
Just a Minute questioned how useful deadlines and constraints are for productivity. It was also a reflection on the importance of time spent on process, play and experimentation in relation to the output produced.
The work showed parallels to the value and importance we place on leisure time, self-soothing, distraction and rest, and the impact this can have on our mental health.
