DANCE:
MY BACKGROUND IS IN DANCE, I STARTED AT THE AGE OF THREE AND HAVE ALWAYS FOUND IT A NATURAL WAY TO COMMUNICATE, SELF-SOOTH AND DISTRACT.
IN MY YOUNGER YEARS I WAS A DANCE TEACHER AND CHOREOGRAPHER BEFORE MY I BEGAN TO WORK AS A VISUAL ARTIST. NOW, THE IDEA THAT YOU CAN SEE MOVEMENT WITHIN A 2D IMAGE FASCINATES ME. AS AN ADVOCATE OF BODY POSITIVITY, MY AIM IS TO REFRAME THE WAY IN WHICH SOCIETY RATES FORM OVER FUNCTION WHEN IT COMES TO THE FEMALE BODY, BRINGING TO LIGHT THE AMAZING CAPACITY OUR BODIES HAVE FOR MOVEMENT (THE INTERNAL WORKINGS OF WHICH WE CAN NEVER FULLY UNDERSTAND AND APPRECIATE) |
THEATRE:
I STUDIED AMERICAN THEATRE AS MY DEGREE AT ROSE BRUFORD COLLEGE.
WHILST RESEARCHING 'THE THEATRE OF IMAGES' FOR MY DISSERTATION PIECE, I BECAME CONVINCED OF THE VERY REAL POSSIBILITY OF COMMUNICATING WITHOUT THE USE OF WORDS THROUGH COMBINING OF ART FORMS AND THE MIXING OF MEDIA. IT STRIKES ME THAT THROUGH THE BLEEDING OF ART FORMS, THE MIXING OF STYLES AND MEDIA, THE WORKING AND REWORKING OF A CONCEPT IN A VARIOUS FORMS, YOU CAN CREATE MULTI FACETED LAYERS. THESE LAYERS NOT ONLY PROVIDE ENDLESS COMBINATION POTENTIALS FOR A NEW SENSORY LANGUAGE BUT ALSO CREATE THE POSSIBILITY OF A HUGE OUTREACH AS THEY SHOW SUCH VARIETY AND ARE ALL ENCOMPASSING.
