Fourth Wall Folkestone:
Fourth Wall Folkestone CIC is a creative space focused on all things art and mental health.
Founded by myself in November 2022 on The Old High Street in Folkestone, it is open to all as a non-traditional gallery, open studio, and research space. Inviting the local community to reimagine the role of an artist and art in society by holding accessible events and workshops.

Fourth Wall Folkestone aims to be:
– A space for transparency about what it means to be an artist, and indeed an artist with mental illness. An invitation to reimagine the art world, the role of an artist and the role of art in society.
– A place to demonstrate the power of art to question and disrupt as a critical friend.
– A research space focussing on process, play and experimentation to open up creative thinking rather than being outcome led. Sending a message that we are creative. It doesn’t matter if the outcome is “good” or “bad” as long as it is interesting to you and/or others.
– A safe space for opening dialogue through making. Giving the voiceless a chance to express themselves and create not just art but connection at the same time.
– An inclusive and accessible space. Relying on honesty and trust, it will operate a “pay what you can afford” policy for talks, events and workshops, trusting that those who can afford to support will do so, ensuring that those on low or no income can also be involved.
– A place to share with the public important and exciting work happening within mental health research. Breaking down the barriers between academia and creative arts.
– A nurturing space fostering self-compassion and demonstrating how work-life balance might look.
